Dey Street Books told The Associated Press that the book will be titled My Prerogative. Brown said in a statement, released by the publisher, that the memoir is a journey through his “crazy, exciting, fascinating world.”

“Right after I signed on to write my story, I went through one of the most agonizing traumas I had ever experienced with the death of my daughter,” Brown said. “But I was surprised by how therapeutic it was to work on this project, to look at the entire arc of my life and to realize that although there has been considerable pain, I have also been incredibly blessed.”

Brown’s ex-wife is the late Whitney Houston, who died in February 2012. Their only child, Bobbi Kristina Brown, died in July at age 22 after being found unconscious in her bathtub.

“I hope my fans and other readers of this book will be entertained by this trip into the crazy, exciting, fascinating world of Bobby Brown,” Brown added. “And I hope they will feel that I have been as honest and open with them in these pages as I have tried to be my entire life.”

Dey Street promises that the book will tell the truth about his life and his relationship with Whitney Houston.

The memoir is being written with Nick Chiles, who has also worked on books by former Massachusetts Gov. Deval Patrick, the Rev. Al Sharpton and others.

Brown co-founded the group New Edition, but has become better known for his marriage to Houston, which lasted from 1992 to 2007, and his struggles with drugs.
