7. Take It on the Run
“Take It on the Run” was written by Richrath and appeared on the very successful 1980 REO album Hi Infidelity. The single hit #5 on Billboard’s and #19 on the UK’s singles charts. It has been covered and recorded by numerous artists. The single went gold in 1989. This seems like a big departure for Richrath from his love for hard rock. Cronin said in an interview with Goldmine magazine,
“Gary is a country guy; he’s from Peoria. ‘Take It On The Run’ is a country song. We just cranked up the Les Paul and made it a rock song.”
Richrath plays a beautiful, melodic lead passage in this song that reminds us that his talent is not wasted on pop music.
