Steven Spielberg gets Olivia Cooke for ‘Ready Player One’ (Reports)

Olivia Cooke, who impressed critics in Me and Earl and the Dying Girl, is reportedly in talks to star in Steven Spielberg’s Ready Player One.

The casting was first reported by The Hollywood Reporter, which claims that she’s already in talks for the part. Just last week, TheWrap did report that she was one of three ‘finalists’ for the part, along with Elle Fanning and Mistress America’s Lola Kirke.

Should Cooke secure this part, she probably won’t be able to accept a role in Star Wars: Episode VII. That would leave Gina Rodriguez or Tatiana Maslany on the list for a female lead in that film.

Cooke stars in A&E’s Bates Motel and was last seen on the big screen in Me And Earl And The Dying Girl.

Ready Player One is based on the novel by Ernest Cline and will hit theaters on Dec. 15, 2017. There was a rumor that Spielberg wanted to pull Gene Wilder out of retirement for the Warner Bros./Village Roadshow/DreamWorks movie, but there’s been no confirmation on that.
