Anthony Horowitz, the latest author to take a stab at Ian Fleming's famous James Bond, had some things to say about Idris Elba.

During an interview with the Daily Mail to promote Trigger Mortis, the creator of the successful Alex Rider series said that he thinks Elba is “a bit too ‘street’” to play 007.
“Idris Elba is a terrific actor, but I can think of other black actors who would do it better,” Horowitz said, suggesting Adrian Lester (Hustle) instead.
“For me, Idris Elba is a bit too rough to play the part. It’s not a colour issue. I think he is probably a bit too “street” for Bond. Is it a question of being suave? Yeah,” Horowitz said.
For awhile, many have been suggesting that Elba should be the next Bond after Daniel Craig has finished out his contract. That suggestion has been controversial to some, since he would be the first black actor to play the role. Elba said last year that he would definitely play Bond if the part was offered.
Horowitz also shared his thoughts on Craig, who he called a “terrific Bond.” He loves Casino Royale, but didn’t like Quantum of Solace. As for Skyfall, which is the top-grossing Bond film ever, he didn’t care for it.
“Skyfall is my least favourite. I know it is heresy to say so, but it is the one Bond film I have never liked,” Horowitz said. When asked why, he replied, “How much time do you have? Bond is weak in it. He has doubts. That’s not Bond.”
Horowitz’s Trigger Mortis comes out next week.
As for Elba, he can probably brush off the author’s comments. He just became the first man to cover Maxim solo after all.
