Amanda Peterson, the actress who starred in 1987’s Can’t Buy Me Love with Patrick Dempsey, died from an accidental overdose of a dangerous mix of drugs.
Peterson was found dead in her Greely, Colorado home on July 5. Her family had not heard from her since July 3. She was 43 years old.
According to TMZ, the Weld County Coroner has determined that Peterson had several prescription drugs in her body and the mix caused a “morphine effect.” The drugs included benzodiazepines, anti-anxiety medication; opiates; and phenothiazines. It was also found that she had marijuana in her system.
The coroner's report also showed that he had six times the normal amount of the pain medication Gabapentin in her system.
TMZ notes that the report also shows that she told someone that she had taken morphine medication and was self-medicating to control pain.
After Peterson’s death was reported in July, her parents spoke out and insisted that she was doing well.
“Amanda was in very good spirits,” her mother, Sylvia, told Entertainment Tonight about the last time she saw Peterson. She also said about her daughter’s death, “This was not, in any way, a drug thing.”
Peterson rarely worked in Hollywood after Can’t Buy Me Love, only making a few TV appearances and making the 1994 movie Windrunner.
