Top 10 Wes Craven movies

3. Scream 2

A Nightmare on Elm Street 2 was a terrible sequel, made without Craven's involvement and by a guy who didn't even like the original movie that much. But with Scream 2, Craven returned in the director's chair, just about every single cast member came back, and he set the stage for one of the greatest horror franchises ever with one of the great horror sequels ever. Craven gets things started right away with the unforgettable cold open, which brings the horror right to the movie theater and brilliantly introduces "Stab" as a stand in for Scream itself. From there, the plot is pretty basic: it's a few years after the original Ghostface murders, and now someone else has donned the mask and is killing again. It sounds like a pretty basic plot intended to beat a good idea into the ground, but Craven elevates it into a highly enjoyable ride that is very nearly as good as the original.
