7. The Hills Have Eyes
Not really creating that much fanfare at the time, The Hills Have Eyes became a cult classic recognized among fans as being absolutely brilliant, and it's hard to believe Craven made this as only his second film. In this one, a family has their car break down while on a trip, and they're surrounded by violent savages. It's a raw, brutal, and unpleasant movie, creating a real sense of claustrophobia like you're stranded out here with the family too and there's this ticking clock of doom hanging over you. It's more atmospheric than The Last House on the Left but every bit as brutal, and one of the all time great exploitation horror films. No remake could ever compare.
