The Cabin in the Woods is co-written by the film's director and Cloverfield screenwriter Drew Goddard and Avengers director Joss Whedon. Goddard described the film as his, "loving hater letter to the genre." He goes on to describe his distaste for the newly formed splatter film genre. Examples being: Saw, Hostel, and Rob Zombie's films. For those who feel the same, this is the movie to watch. That's why this movie is great. In an era where it seems studios only want to make horror movies with nonstop blood and gore, The Cabin in the Woods shines with its plot and unique storytelling.
