Tom Hiddleston transforms into Hank Williams for ‘I Saw The Light’

Tom Hiddleston fans might finally get to hear the British actor’s name in the awards discussion this fall. He stars in Sony Pictures Classic’s I Saw The Light, which tells the tragic story of country music icon Hank Williams. The distributor released the first image from the film this afternoon.

The image (shown below) is just a simple portrait of Hiddleston wearing a cowboy hat, looking away from the camera. The British actor does surprisingly look like the Alabama-born Williams. We’ll have to wait until the film comes out in November to see his performance in the role though.

SPC picked up the rights to the project in April. It was written and directed by Marc Abraham and based on Colin Escott’s biography of Williams. Elizabeth Olsen, Cherry Jones, Bradley Whitford and David Krumholtz also star.

The film focuses on Williams’ tragically short life, which ended in 1953, when he was only 29. Williams is known for writing songs that have become country standards, including songs like “Your Cheatin’ Heart,” “I’m So Lonesome I Could Cry” and “Move It On Over.”

I Saw The Light was produced by RatPac Entertainment’s Brett Ratner and Bron Studios’ Aaron L. Gilbert. The executive producers are RatPac’s James Packer and Creative Wealth Media Finance’s Jason Cloth.

The film will hit theaters on Nov. 27. Considering the distributor’s recent success with awards campaigns, look for this film to hand around the awards table if it gets good reviews.
