Hurricane Danny has gained strength in the Atlantic Ocean today, becoming the first of the 2015 Atlantic Hurricane Season, the National Weather Service reported today.

The NWS reported that the storm reached hurricane strength at 11 a.m. with maximum sustained winds of 75 mph and is currently moving west northwest at 12 mph.
According to USA Today, Danny is now 1,090 miles east of the Windward Islands in the Caribbean. It is expected to hit those islands by Monday and could hit Puerto Rico by Tuesday.
Danny is also very small at this point. The Weather Channel’s Nick Wiltgen tweeted that “you could fit 321 Dannys into Hurricane Sandy.”
According to my calculations you could fit 321 Dannys into Hurricane Sandy (using the Oct. 29, 2012 11am advisory). #Danny #Sandy

Still, the storm could come as a relief to the Caribbean islands, since many are experiencing a drought. San Juan, Puerto Rico had just 1.6 inches of rain last month, the fourth-driest month since 1898, the NWS said, notes USA Today.
Here’s a satellite image of the storm astronaut Scott Kelly tweeted:
