4. The Man Who Knew Too Much (1934)
The original The Man Who Knew Too Much is a much more chilling, atmospheric film than the 1956 version with James Stewart and Doris Day. It runs just 75 minutes, but Hitchcock still takes his time in setting up the abduction of a vacationing British couple’s young daughter. Peter Lorre is also stellar as the leader of the assassins.
