8. Saboteur (1942)
Saboteur, which shouldn’t be confused with Hitch’s 1936 film Sabotage, was made at the height of World War II and reflects the fear that action could reach the homefront. Robert Cummings, who also starred in Dial M For Murder, isn’t a dashing male lead. However, if Hitch was looking to plug an “everyman” into the role of a man mistaken for sabotaging an aircraft factory, Cummings is perfect. The film features the famous scene at the Statue of Liberty. (And yes, the actor who falls from the statue is Norman Lloyd, who was just in Amy Schumer’s Trainwreck.)
