1. Foreign Correspondent (1940)
Hitchcock actually made two films in 1940 - the Best Picture winner Rebecca and the Best Picture nominee Foreign Correspondent. Starring Joel McCrea as an American reporter looking into the possibility of Europe breaking into war, this is a thrilling masterpiece with several scenes that have to be seen to be believed.
While it didn’t get a slot in this list, I also want to point out Shadow of a Doubt, which Hitchcock called his favorite film. It’s another great one, with the director turning his camera to small town America. Rope with James Stewart is also another underrated movie worth checking out.
