2. Lifeboat (1944)
These last two could be interchangeable, since I think they are Hitch’s best films that aren’t as widely known as they should be. Lifeboat, which earned one of Hitchcock’s five Best Director Oscar nominations, is a true masterwork of directing. Written by John Steinbeck, it is literally 96 minutes of being embedded in a boat with survivors. It’s truly one of cinema’s most unique experiences.
