U.K. prankster Lee Nelson interrupted a media conference with FIFA president Sepp Blatter by throwing dollar bills at the embattled leader of the international soccer body. Blatter wasn’t too happy about it, but Nelson did create a new image to use whenever anyone reports on FIFA corruption.
Nelson, whose real name is Simon Brodkin, managed to get into the FIFA headquarters in Zurich, claiming to be a North Korean World Cup delegate, reports The Guardian. As Nelson moved in front of Blatter, the FIFA president wondered where his security was.
As Nelson was dragged away, he threw dozens of fake U.S. dollar bills at Blatter, creating a very surreal image of Blatter sitting with money raining over him. Considering the allegations of corruption that surround FIFA, it’s probably the last image the organization needed to see.
“This is nothing to do with football … we need to clean here first,” Blatter said as he left the stage after Nelson’s act.
As previously reported, during the meeting in Zurich, FIFA scheduled a new election for president on Feb. 26. Blatter said in June that he will step down after he was re-elected to a fifth term as president. The decision came after 14 former and current FIFA executives were arrested by the U.S. Department of Justice on corruption charges.
