Beasts of No Nation, Cary Fukunaga

Beasts of No Nation is an interesting case, since as it debuts on the film festival circuit, it will also be on Netflix. The streaming service will release the film to limited theaters on Oct. 16 and will have it available to stream. It will be the company’s first feature film to be in the running for Oscars, although last year’s Virunga documentary earned Netflix’s first Oscar nomination.

As for the movie itself, it was directed by Cary Fukunaga, who helmed the first season of True Detective. Idris Elba stars as a war lord who mentors a child soldier. It’s based on Uzodinma Iweala’s novel.
