The Walk, Robert Zemeckis
Robert Zemeckis’ The Walk has been chosen to open NYFF and looks like a movie that must be seen in IMAX. The film stars Joseph Gordon-Levitt as Philippe Petit, who walked across New York’s Twin Towers on a wire. Yes, the story was already told in the documentary Man on Wire, but it looks like Zemeckis has found a thrilling, exciting way to tell it again.
It’s important to keep in mind that many films that will be in the running for Oscars will not be shown at festivals this fall. Many - including Snowden (with JGL, too), Joy, The Hateful Eight and The Revenant - won’t even hit theaters until Christmas Day. And we know the Cannes hit Carol, which is not scheduled for either Toronto or Venice, will likely have a shot at some awards.
