Michael Cera to voice Robin in ‘LEGO Batman’ with Will Arnett

Michael Cera will be the Boy Wonder, at least in LEGO form. The Arrested Development star will voice Robin in Warner Bros.’ LEGO Batman animated movie.

The casting was first reported by The Hollywood Reporter. According to TheWrap, Cera also passed on a part in the Harry Potter spinoff Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them, which is also being produced by Warner Bros.

Chris McKay is directing the film, which will include Cera’s Arrested Development co-star Will Arnett voicing Batman again. It is currently scheduled for release on Feb. 10, 2017 and it is expected to pay homage to every era of Batman films.

Strangely enough, Cera will only be the third actor to play Robin for a big-screen movie. Burt Ward played Robin in the Batman The Movie film that went with the Adam West series. Current NCIS: LA star Chris O’Donnell played Robin in Batman Forever and Batman & Robin. There was no Robin in Christopher Nolan’s Dark Knight films and Warner Bros. has yet to cast a Robin for Ben Affleck’s new Batman.

Original LEGO Movie directors Phil Lord and Christopher Miller are producing LEGO Batman with Dan Lin. Seth Grahame-Smith (Dark Shadows) wrote the script.

Cera’s next film is Seth Rogen’s R-rated animated movie Sausage Party, which opens in August 2016.
