John C. Reilly says he signed on for ‘Wreck-It Ralph’ sequel

Sequels to Walt Disney Animation features used to be rare, but the studio doesn’t seem to care about that any longer so it shouldn’t be a complete surprise that John C. Reilly said he is signed on for a Wreck-It Ralph.

The character actor was a special guest at the Galway Film Fleadh over the weekend. According to Entertainment.ie, Reilly told a local reporter that he was already signed on for Wrek-It Ralph 2. The news was tweeted by Penny Hart, a producer for RTE Radio 1.

While Walt Disney Animation hasn’t greenlit a sequel to one of its best animated films, it doesn’t sound like a crazy idea. The movie grossed $471.2 million worldwide after its November 2012 release. That’s not quite Frozen money, but the characters are still fresh in everyone’s minds. Plus, the movie features plenty of familiar video game characters whose rights holders wouldn’t mind getting their properties in another Disney movie.

Wreck-It Ralph director Rich Moore is currently working on Zootopia, which hits theaters in March. ComicBook.com notes that Moore had said in the past that he’d like to make a sequel that focuses on online gaming, since the first film was all about the arcade world.
