Hilary Swank has decided to put her career on hold to act as a caregiver for her father, who recently underwent surgery for a lung transplant.
Swank and her father didn’t have a close relationship while she was growing up, so it’s particularly important to her to be there for him in his time of need.
“My dad is living with me...I'm his sole caretaker right now,” she told HuffPost Live. "It's a certain amount of time [to serve as a caretaker], but in a lifespan it's a blink of an eye."
She went on to call it an “honor” to take care of him and revealed she’s turned down roles in order to make her father a priority.
“There’s been job opportunities I’ve passed on, and things that I said ‘I can’t,’ but really what we’re here for is our family,” she explained. “You can’t get this time back, and I’d look back and regret not taking care of him in this time. It’s a true honor.”
On Father’s Day, she posted a photo of her dad on Instagram, writing, “#HappyFathersDay to my dear Father! And, to all the Fathers out there! Today and always we cherish you!!”
