Who likes seeing Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson survive destruction? Since so many people already like that idea, he’s going to do it again in a movie based on the story-less Rampage arcade game.
Shortly after Warner Bros. and New Line’s San Andreas became an instant hit in May and June, Johnson was attached to Rampage. Today, Deadline reported that Brad Peyton, who directed The Rock in San Andreas and Journey 2: The Mysterious Island, has been hired to direct the project.
Rampage will be produced by Beau Flynn, who also produced San Andreas. Ryan Engle, who wrote Liam Neeson’s Non-Stop, has been tasked with coming up for a story.
Rampage was an ‘80s arcade game that had the player controlling a monster to destroy as many buildings as possible. Johnson will probably be tasked with saving other people from destruction, just like he had to save others in San Andreas.
San Andreas finished its run with $460 million worldwide, with $151 million of that coming from North America alone.
Johnson has a long list of projects in the works, including a third Journey movie, the eighth Fast & Furious movie, the DC Cinematic Universe movie Shazam! and a remake of Big Trouble in Little China.
