People around the country often wonder what goes on in Washington DC and why some politicians seem so detached from reality. What if that was because their brains were taken over by aliens? That’s what BrainDead, an upcoming show from CBS and The Good Wife team Robert and Michelle King will answer.
The weird project was first announced in September 2014. CBS must have liked what they saw because the network announced today that it has given the greenlight and ordered 13 one-hour episodes.
The plot follows a young Capitol Hill staffer who figures out two shocking truths when she arrives in DC: the government doesn’t work any longer and that alien spawn have eaten the brains of Congressmen and their staffers.
“We wanted to do a show that was a mix of genre-pulp and high-brow politics – The Strain crossed with The West Wing,” the Kings said in a statement. “It seemed like the best way to address the news today – not straight, but as the opening act of a horror movie.”
“Robert and Michelle have developed an intriguingly original concept with layers of humor, suspense and the supernatural,” Nina Tassler, Chairman, CBS Entertainment, added. “We look forward to launching it to U.S. viewers and a worldwide audience next summer.”
BrainDead will be produced by CBS TV Studios through the Kings’ three-year producing deal. Ridley Scott’s Scott Free Productions and King Size Productions will co-produce. Executive producers include Scott, the Kings, Judy Smith, David Zucker and Liz Glotzer.
There seems to be a growing interest in science fiction among the executives at CBS. The network is also home to Under The Dome, Extant with Halle Berry and James Patterson’s Zoo. All those shows air during the summer and BrainDead will join them next year.
