Amazon celebrating 20th anniversary with bigger-than-Black Friday Prime Day sales

Black Friday is coming a bit early this year, at least for those who are Amazon Prime members. The online retail giant announced on Monday that it will celebrate its 20th anniversary with Prime Day, which it says will feature better deals than Black Friday.

The sale will start on Wednesday, July 15 at midnight to mark the exact birth of Amazon, which has gone from online bookstore to the Walmart of the web. However, the deals will only be for amazon Prime members in the U.S., U.K., France, Germany, Spain, Italy, Canada and Austria.

Deals will start right at midnight, while lightning deals will start every 10 minutes. Amazon will also launch the Prime Living Photo Contest, where members can submit their photos here and be entered in a contest for $10,000 in Amazon Gift Cards.

“Prime Day is a one-day only event filled with more deals than Black Friday, exclusively for Prime members around the globe. Members tell us every day how much they love Prime and we will keep making it better,” Greg Greeley, Vice President Amazon Prime, said in a statement. “If you’re not already a Prime member, you’ll want to join so you don’t miss out on one of the biggest deals extravaganzas in the world.”

Amazon Prime costs $99 a year and, in addition to free fast shipping, members get access to the Amazon Prime Instant Video streaming service.
