ABC News’ Diane Sawyer gets first TV interview with mother of Columbine shooter

Over 15 years after the Columbine High School tragedy, Sue Klebold, the mother of one of the shooters, is ready to tell her story. She will have a sit-down interview with ABC News anchor Diane Sawyer.

ABC News said today that the interview will air in February 2016 during a one-hour special on school shootings and mental health. The special will also cover the impact mass shootings have on local communities and what can be done to stop them.

Klebold will discuss the topics in her upcoming memoir, A Mother’s Reckoning: Living in the Aftermath of Tragedy, which will be released on Feb. 16, 2016 by The Crown Publishing Group.

Klebold’s son, Dylan Klebold, and Eric Harris opened fire on students at Columbine High in Littleton, Colorado on April 20, 1999. According to CNN, 12 students and one teacher were killed in the shooting and is among the deadliest mass shootings in U.S. history.

In her book, Klebold writes about warning signs and how to help other parents and students. All proceeds from the book is going to charitable and research foundations that deal with mental health issues.

This is the second big interview Sawyer has landed in recent months. In April, she got the first interview with Caitlyn Jenner, who announced that she was a woman.
