The next Fifty Shades of Grey film won’t hit theaters until 2017, but it looks like Universal is already trying to woo some big stars for secondary roles. There have apparently been rumors about Henry Cavill and Charlize Theron joining and the two stars commented - or tried to avoid commenting - on them.
Back in May, a site called Movie News Guide claimed that Cavill had already been “cast” as Jack Hyde, Anastasia Steele’s boss in Fifty Shades Darker. How Cavill is supposed to find time to make this movie between his DC Comics obligations is anyone’s guess, but the actor played coy about it when finally asked about the report.
“Basically what I can say is I can't say anything about it right now,” Cavill told E! News in London while promoting The Man from UNCLE.
Theron was rumored to be playing Elena Lincoln, a friend of Christian Grey’s mother who introduced him to S&M when he was a teen. While on the red carpet for Dark Places though, she told E! News that she had no idea.
“I hadn't heard that one," the Oscar winner said. "Wow, I'm just learning so much about myself on this carpet tonight."
Fifty Shades Darker won’t hit theaters until Feb. 10, 2017. Niall Leonard, E.L. James’ husband, has been hired to write. The search for a director is still ongoing.
Fifty Shades of Grey, which was released in February, stars Dakota Johnson as Anastasia and Jamie Dornan as Christian.
