‘Captain America’: Martin Freeman hints about his new ‘Civil War’ role

Sherlock star Martin Freeman is quickly becoming a go-to actor for any role in franchises and he joined the Marvel universe in May with a part in Captain America: Civil War. The actor recently spoke with an Italian site about his previously mysterious role in the next Marvel film.

Freeman spoke with Italy’s Bad Taste and described his role without revealing his character’s name. He said that his character does work for the government, but you are never supposed to be sure if he’s a good guy or bad.

“It looks a little bit like he’s playing one game when actually he’s playing another,” Freeman said, reports Collider. “It’s the kind of character I like because it’s ambiguous and because you don’t know whether he’s good or bad. I like that area that isn’t black or white, I like the grays, because I think there’s just more fun to be had in not playing one obvious line.”

Collider suggests that Freeman could be playing Everett Ross, a State Department employee who has to escort Wakandan king T’Challa (the Black Panther, played by Chadwick Boseman). He’s an expert on T’Challa’s country, so he becomes an advisor for other agencies.

Civil War is a much bigger film than a typical Marvel solo movie, since it will also include Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.), Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson), Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner), Falcon (Anthony Mackie) and Elizabeth Olsen (Scarlet Witch). It will also feature the debut of the new Spider-Man (Tom Holland) and Black Panther (Boseman). Chris Evans will be back to play Cap.

Cap’s third solo movie will hit theaters on May 6, 2016.
