A woman, who was hoping to become the first to row across the Pacific Ocean solo, had to be rescued before she could complete the task thanks to bad weather.
The Associated Press reported that Sonya Baumstein’s plans were hindered by inclement weather on Saturday and she was rescued off the coast of Japan.
The 30-year-old adventurer sent out a distress call and was picked up by a freight ship that was in the area. She was about 150 miles off the coast of Iwaki city when she was rescued.
Baumstein’s plan was to complete a feat that no woman before her had ever done and row solo from Japan to San Francisco.
“I worked three years of my life for this… It’s 6,000 miles,” she said before embarking on the journey.
Inquisitr noted that Baumstein’s successful solo challenges in the past have included cycling 1,800 miles from Mexico to Seattle, kayaking from Washington to Alaska, and crossing the Bering Strait on a paddle-board.
