The BBC announced today that Chris Evans will be the new host of Top Gear. No, not the actor who plays Captain America, but the well-known British radio and television presenter.

Evans signed a three-year deal to lead an all-new lineup for the long-running car show, starting this upcoming series. He said in a statement that it is his favorite show of all time.
“Created by a host of brilliant minds who love cars and understand how to make the massively complicated come across as fun, devil-may-care and effortless. When in fact, of course, it's anything but and that's the genius of Top Gear's global success,” Evans said in a statement. “I promise I will do everything I possibly can to respect what has gone on before and take the show forward.”
“I'm so delighted that Chris will be presenting the next series of Top Gear,” Kim Shillinglaw, controller of BBC Two and BBC Four, added. “His knowledge of and passion for cars is well-known, and combined with his sheer inventiveness and cheeky unpredictability he is the perfect choice to take our much-loved show into the future.”
Evans became famous in the 1990s, with The BIG Breakfast, Don’t Forget Your Toothbrush and TFI Friday. In 2010, he began hosting BBC Radio 2’s Breakfast Show and also hosts the BBC TV show The One Show on Fridays.
Top Gear opened up to Evans after the BBC decided not to renew Jeremy Clarkson’s contract after he got into a fight with a producer. Clarkson’s co-hosts, Richard Hammond and James May both reportedly turned down a £4 million deal from the BBC to stay on the show, forcing the BBC to find a whole new team to host.
The 23rd series of Top Gear will air in early 2016.
