3. District 9
District 9 was the directorial debut of Neill Blomkamp and left audiences in shock and awe. The plot examines the relationship between humans and aliens that have arrived on earth searching for refuge from their dying planet. This movie was a character piece, thriller and horror, all in one. Not once has Blomkamp recaptured that magic in his follow-up films; maybe returning to his original inspiration would recharge his creativity and career.
