Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs was acting in defense Monday during an alleged incident with a coach at UCLA, the music mogul’s rep said Tuesday. His rep also blasted the media for “wholly inaccurate” reports on the incident.
On Monday, Combs allegedly attacked Sal Alosi, a UCLA assistant football coach, with a kettlebell in a weight room. Combs’ son, Justin Combs, is a redshirt junior defensive back for the university’s football team.
According to the Los Angeles Times, Combs, 45, was arrested at 12:30 p.m. Monday and was charged with three counts of assault with a deadly weapon, one count of making terrorist threats and one count of battery. Combs and Alosi were not seriously hurt and Combs was later released Monday night on bail.
“I’m thankful that our staff showed the level of professionalism that they did in handling this situation," Bruins head coach Jim Mora said in a statement to the LA Times. "This is an unfortunate incident for all parties involved. While UCPD continues to review this matter, we will let the legal process run its course and refrain from further comment at this time.”
Combs Enterprises rep Nathalie Moar told the Associated Press that the reports about the arrest are “wholly inaccurate,” adding, “What we can say now is that any actions taken by Mr. Combs were solely defensive in nature to protect himself and his son.”
Moar added, “We are confident that once the true facts are revealed, the case will be dismissed,” reports ESPN.
