NBC distances itself from Donald Trump: ‘We do not agree’

While Univision made the surprising move Thursday to completely cut all ties with Donald Trump, the Trump Organization and Miss Universe, NBC’s only response to Trump’s offensive remarks about Mexican immigrants was a wimpy statement.

Early Thursday, Univision announced that it will not air the July 12 Miss USA pageant or any other Trump-related show due to his “recent, insulting remarks about Mexican immigrants” during his presidential campaign announcement last week. Trump then threatened to sue and suggested that the Mexican government was pressuring the Spanish-language network to sever ties with him.

NBCUniversal, which co-owns the Miss Universe Organization with Trump, stayed quiet until last night.

“Donald Trump’s opinions do not represent those of NBC, and we do not agree with his positions on a number of issues, including his recent comments on immigration,” the statement to Entertainment Weekly.

In addition to not confirming their plans for the Miss USA pageant, the statement didn’t say anything about the future of Trump’s Celebrity Apprentice series. That show was picked up for another season and the only word on that show’s future has been reports that NBC is “re-evaluating” its relationship with the billionaire.

During his announcement that he will run for the 2016, Trump said of Mexico, “When Mexico sends its people, they're not sending their best. They're not sending you. They're not sending you. They're sending people that have lots of problems, and they're bringing those problems with us. They're bringing drugs. They're bringing crime. They're rapists. And some, I assume, are good people.”
