It’s been over 10 years since Mean Girls was released but the film’s following is as strong as ever. Case in point: a new app has been created by Pocket Gems, which is an interactive game with the film’s memorable characters.
Pocket Gems' Jameel Khalfan has confirmed the creators of the app have worked with Paramount to make sure it fits as true to the film as possible.
“Even though it's been a while since the movie came out, it's been a favorite for people at the company. It's a really good fit for the platform,” Khalfan told The Hollywood Reporter.
In a nutsell, users will become a new student at the same high school the girls attended, just as Cady (Lindsay Lohan) was, and interact with the characters dubbed the Plastics.
Kirsten Smith (10 Things I Hate About You,Legally Blonde) is reportedly writing the storyline with Marcy Kelly.
"You as a user make choices that can affect the storyline. What clothing you are wearing, what you do, the characters that you talk to — every choice you make will affect what happens in the story,” Khalfan explained.
Last year, for the film’s 10th anniversary, the cast; Lindsay Lohan, Tina Fey, Rachel McAdams, Lacey Chabert and Amanda Seyfried, reunited for a photoshoot and to discuss the impact the film has had on pop culture for Entertainment Weekly.
