Authorities have said that a man whose gun accidentally fired during a wedding reception at the Waldorf Astoria in New York over the weekend will not be charged with the shooting.
The New York Daily News reported that law enforcement officials said that Vladimir Gotlibovsky, 42, would be charged with assault, tampering with physical evidence and reckless endangerment after the accidental shooting. However, Manhattan District Attorney Cyrus Vance Jr. did not bring charges and “deferred” the case.
“The evidence doesn’t support the crime and therefore the DA’s office made the appropriate decision,” said Gotlibovsky’s lawyer Arthur Gershfeld.
The Associated Press noted that police said a 9mm Ruger in Gotlibovsky’s pocket discharged and injured four people during a wedding reception at the posh hotel on Saturday. The injured guests suffered graze and fragment wounds and were transported to the hospital.
The Waldorf Astoria allowed the reception to go on after the incident but had all guests leave by 10 p.m. The hotel said that has been and will continue to cooperate with investigators.
