Last year, one of John Oliver’s best segments was his takedown of FIFA, the governing body of his beloved sport soccer. With FIFA back in the news after top executives were finally indicted for corruption charges, he had to bring them up again.
Oliver listed many of the crazy facts revealed by the U.S. Department of Justice’s indictment of 14 officials from last week. The DOJ alleges that they accepted bribes worth a combined $150 million over two decades in exchange for kickbacks. Oliver was particularly harsh on former FIFA executive Jack Warner, especially for citing an Onion story.
However, Oliver was really annoyed that Sepp Blatter was re-elected as FIFA president just days after the arrests. He even agreed to do crazy things for sponsors in order to convince them that Blatter needs to go away. Oliver will even drink Bud Light Lime to convince Budweiser to stop supporting Blatt.
