James Gunn talks 'Guardians of the Galaxy 2' says it will be 'more emotional'

Guardians of the Galaxy was the breakout box office hit of last summer for Marvel. Guardians made over $774 million at the worldwide box office and has become one of the most successful Marvel movies of all time. James Gunn, was the mastermind behind Guardians and is now working on the follow-up. During his appearance at the recent Saturn Awards, Gunn opened up about what fans can expect from the highly anticipated sequel.

During an interview with Collider, Gunn opened up about how working on the sequel is a different process compared to the original. "It's going to be exciting, I think it's a more emotional movie. It's both a bigger movie and a smaller movie because we focus more intensely on some of the characters," said Gunn.

The next movie will also focus on answering questions that fans had after watching Guardians. "We get to learn a lot about fathers in the second movie, and I think we focus a lot on that," said Gunn.

Chris Pratt has heard the pitch for the follow-up and is already impressed. As previously reported during an interview with Digital Spy, Pratt said that he cried when he heard the pitch and the ideas for the sequel. "His pitch and his idea legitimately put tears in my eyes," said Pratt. "It's so good."

Guardians of the Galaxy 2 will be released on May 5, 2017 as part of the expanding Marvel Cinematic Universe.
