James Gunn has awhile to put together Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy 2, but he let everyone know that he’s already finished the first draft of the screenplay.
Gunn posted a picture of the draft’s title page, which just features his name. “Phew. 1st draft,” he wrote. However, he wouldn’t reveal anything else, adding “#NoSpoilers” and “#NotEvenTheTitle.”
Guardians of the Galaxy became a surprise hit for Marvel and Disney last year, earning $774.1 million worldwide, despite starring obscure characters from the Marvel universe. Gunn co-wrote the script with Nicole Perlman and the result was one of the most original Marvel movies yet.
We don’t know much of anything about the second film, other than Chris Pratt is playing Star-Lord again and Zoe Saldana will play Gamora. The rest of the titular team included Dave Bautista as Drax the Destroyer, Bradley Cooper voicing Rocket Raccoon and Vin Diesel voicing Groot. Lee Pace is not expected to be back as Ronan The Accuser.
“I would love to do the version of Guardians that’s just those guys arguing for two hours in a room,” Gunn jokingly told Entertainment Weekly in November about the sequel. At least, we think he was joking.
Guardians 2 hits theaters on May 5, 2017.
