A few weeks after getting everyone excited about the sequel to Goon, Entertainment One has pressed the start button on the film, even getting Liev Schreiber, Seann William Scott and Jay Baruchel back. Plus, Happy Endings star Elisha Cuthbert is joining the trio.
Cuthbert will play the sister of Alison Pill’s character in the new film, reports The Hollywood Reporter. She was recently on Happy Endings and last seen in Just Before I Go, an indie film Courteney Cox directed that also starred Scott.
Scott will play hockey player Doug “The Thug” Glatt, who became a hockey star in the original 2011 film because he beat the sh*t out of everyone else on the ice. In the new film, his team reunites while the pro league is in the middle of a lockout. According to Deadline, the film will be titled Goon: Last of the Enforcers.
Other returning Goon stars include Pill, Marc-Andre Grondin and Kim Coates.
Scott and Baruchel, who co-wrote the first film with Evan Goldberg, confirmed in April that they were definitely going to make a Goon 2. Scott even wrote on Reddit that shooting would start later this month.
Baruchel is going to direct the film himself, replacing Michael Dowse. No Trace Camping and Caramel Films are producing and filming will take place in Toronto.
Goon was released in 2011 and wasn’t a financial hit outside of Canada, but it has become better known through its availability on streaming services. If you haven’t seen it yet, here it is on Netflix. Without spoiling it too much, it is hilarious.
