David Crosby gives update on Joni Mitchell, says she is ‘not speaking yet’

David Crosby gave an update on Joni Mitchell’s health, as his friend has been hospitalized since late March. The singer said that, to his knowledge, Mitchell is not speaking yet.

Mitchell has been hospitalized since March 31 and reportedly suffered a brain aneurysm. Her reps have said that they expect a “full recovery,” although they made that comment in April.

During an interview with HuffPost Live, Crosby did say that she “took a terrible hit” and did suffer an aneurysm. He even said that “nobody found her for awhile.”

“To my knowledge she is not speaking yet...She's going to have to struggle back from it the way you struggle back from a traumatic brain injury…She's a tough girl, and very smart,” Crosby said. “So, how much she's going to come back and when, I don't know and I'm not going to guess.”

Crosby, who helped make Mitchell’s “Woodstock” a hit with Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young, was clearly emotional while talking about Mitchell. “I love her. She’s probably the best of us - probably the greatest living singer-songwriter,” he said, notes Rolling Stone.

The last official statement on Mitchell’s health came in April, after TMZ reported that she was in a coma. “Contrary to rumors circulating on the Internet today, Joni is not in a coma,” the statement read. “Joni is still in the hospital - but she comprehends, she’s alert, and she has her full senses. A full recovery is expected.”

Mitchell said in past interviews that she suffers from the rare Morgellons disease. She hasn’t recorded an album since 2007.
