'Beverly Hills, 90210' to get unauthorized Lifetime movie treatment

Even if something doesn’t work, Lifetime sure isn’t going to fix it. The network announced a third unauthorized TV movie about a classic show, this time taking on the behind-the-scenes drama of Beverly Hills, 90210.

The beloved original series ran for 10 seasons on Fox, covering all of the 1990s. Luke Perry, Jennie Garth, Tori Spelling and Jason Priestley became stars thanks to the show, which was created by Darren Star.

Lifetime said that the movie will cover the drama of the show’s first four seasons, including clashes between stars and producers on and off-set. According to Entertainment Weekly, the network has tapped Vanessa Parise to direct, with Peter M. Green and Howard Braunstein producing. The script was written by Love Liza’s Jeff Roda.

This is the third unauthorized made-for-TV movie about a ‘90s show for Lifetime. In April, the network announced The Unauthorized Full House Story, which will air on Aug. 22.

Lifetime started this cycle with 2014’s The Unauthorized Saved By The Bell Story, which only ended up drawing 1.6 million viewers when it debuted. But obviously, Lifetime isn’t shooting for high ratings with these movies.

The network is celebrating 25 years of its made-for-TV movies with A Deadly Adoption, which stars Will Ferrell and Kristen Wiig. It debuts Saturday.
