BET Awards winners list: Beyonce picks up a couple, Janet Jackson wins career achievement award

The BET Awards were held last night, with black-ish stars Anthony Anderson and Tracee Ellis Ross hosting. Beyonce picked up a couple of awards, while Janet Jackson got a nice toast before she starts a career revival.

Beyonce won Best Female R&B/Pop Artist and Video of the Year for “7/11.” She also shared Video Director of the Year with Ed Burke and Todd Tourso for their collaborative work on the BEYONCE video album.

All the other awards were spread out among the nominees. Best Male R&B/Pop Artist went to Chris Brown, while Kendrick Lamar won Best Male Hip Hop Artist. Common and John Legend won Best Collaboration for their Oscar-winning song “Glory” from Selma.

Rae Sremmurd won Best Group and Nicki Minaj took home Best Female Hip Hop Artist. Sam Smith managed to win Best New Artist and Lecrae won Best Gospel Artist.

Best Actor and Actress went to Empire stars Terrence Howard and Taraji P. Henson. Best Movie went to Selma.

Other non-music winners on the night were Mo’ne Davis, who won the YoungStars Award; Sportsman of the Year winner Steph Curry; and Sportswoman of the Year Serena Williams.

Nicki Minaj, Drake, Lil Wayne & Chris Brown’s “Only” won the Coca-Cola Viewers’ Choice Award. The Centric Award went to The Weeknd’s Fifty Shades of Grey song “Earned It.” Stonebwoy of Ghana won Best International Act: Africa and Stormzy won Best International Act: U.K. Lastly, the Fandemonium award went to Chris Brown.

Jackson won the Ultimate Icon: Music Dance Visual Award. She is about to start a world tour and will release her first album in since 2008.
