Even though the group Women on 20s earned substantial media coverage in their effort to get get President Andrew Jackson replaced by a woman on the $20 bill, the U.S. Treasury said that it is the $10 bill that will get the redesign. Treasury Secretary Jack Lew announced on Wednesday that Alexander Hamilton will be replaced by a woman in 2020.

The Treasury promised that the redesigned $10 bill will feature a “notable woman” and they are asking for our help in deciding. They are urging Twitter users to include the hashtag #TheNew10 to give their suggestions.
Back in May, Women on 20s had actually announced that Harriet Tubman won their poll and they would support pushing for her to replace Jackson. The group got so much attention that even New Hampshire Sen. Jeanne Shaheen introduced the Women on the Twenty Act to urge Lew to create a citizens panel.
However, CNN reported back in March that it was the $10 bill that would more likely be changed. A Treasury Department spokeswoman told CNN that the new $10 bill will also include a raised “tactile feature” to make it easier for the blind to use cash. Indeed, the treasury did point out this week that they picked the $10 for a redesign in 2013.
The new $10 bill will be in circulation by 2020 to mark the 100th anniversary of the 19th Amendment, which gave women the right to vote.
