The Fugitive, easily the greatest film based on a TV series ever made, is getting a new installment from Warner Bros. It’s not clear if this would be a sequel to the 1993 film that starred Harrison Ford and Tommy Lee Jones or if it will be an entirely new take on the story.
The news was first reported by Deadline and also reported by Entertainment Weekly.
The Fugitive began life in 1963 with David Janssen as Dr. Richard Kimble, a fugitive wrongly accused of killing his wife. The series was massive hit and ran until 1967.
In 1993, Warner Bros. produced the film version, which starred Ford as Kimble and Jones as the U.S. Marshal on his trail. Directed by Andrew Davis, the taut thriller is considered one of the best of its genre and is the only film based on a TV show to be nominated for the Best Picture Oscar. Jones actually won Best Supporting Oscar for his role and earned a poorly-received spinoff movie called U.S. Marshalls with Wesley Snipes and Robert Downey Jr.
Christina Hodson is writing the new The Fugitive. Arnold and Anne Kopelson, who produced the original film, will also produce the new film, whatever it turns out to be.
We do think we know what Jones’ response to this will be:
