6. Minecraft
Like Angry Birds, a Minecraft movie is basically just free money for the studio. The game is wildly popular among kids, and it’s open enough that a movie adaptation could basically be anything and kids will flock to it in droves. The film was actually in production until recently and was going to be directed by Shawn Levy, but he left the project when game developers Mojang rejected his idea. He apparently wanted the movie to be a Goonies style adventure.
For now, then, the Minecraft movie is on hold, but there’s no doubt that’s just until Warner Bros. can find another director, and it seems just about guaranteed we’ll see the movie in theaters sometime in the next few years.
