5. Louis CK’s Monologue & Michael Keaton’s Monologue – Ep 21, Louis CK & Rihanna and Ep 17, Michael Keaton & Carly Rae Jepsen
The two best monologues of the year belonged to CK and Keaton who both took a very different, but hilarious, approach to the opening monologue. CK’s was straight stand-up, no doubt just part of his regular touring act, on button-pushing topics ranging from race to pedophilia. Fans of his FX show will know that race and sexual taboos are a staple in CK’s writing and his monologue was a biting, outrageous and exceptionally funny take on them. Keaton’s, on the other hand, was a much safer monologue but one performed brilliantly. Having Moynihan and Killam as Keaton’s biggest fans was really great (as was their homemade fan film) and Keaton proved a very game host.
