2. Bill Hader Episode – Ep 3, Bill Hader & Hozier
Three sketches in the Bill Hader episode were Top Ten material: Group Hopper, 39 Cents and Advanced Puppetry. But while I enjoyed Group Hopper, it’s the later two that really deserve this number two spot. 39 Cents, perhaps the best socially minded sketch of the year, is a brilliant take-down of those “help the poor children in Africa” commercials. Even though I’ve seen this sketch many times by now, Thompson’s line reading of “start higher” (hands down one of the best lines this season) still makes me laugh out loud. Speaking of one of the best lines this season, the return of Anthony Peter Coleman boasted his hilarious “You want to hear a joke?” line. Hader inhabits Coleman so perfectly, it’s hard to believe this is a character he’s only done once before. He’s so specific and so weirdly hilarious, I hope we get to see him again.
