Tilda Swinton in talks for key role in Marvel's 'Doctor Strange' with Benedict Cumberbatch

It’s been awhile since we last heard about Marvel’s Doctor Strange with Benedict Cumberbatch, but today’s news will certainly get interest in it going again. Tilda Swinton is reportedly in talks with the studio for a key role.

Marvel has decided to change the Ancient One, the Tibetan mystic who is Strange’s mentor, into a woman. According to The Hollywood Reporter, which first reported the casting, the studio wants Swinton for the part. TheWrap also reported on the casting.

Marvel has not commented yet.

Cumberbatch was officially cast as Strange in December and the film isn’t scheduled for release until Nov. 4, 2017. Scott Derrickson is directing. There were rumors that Chiwetel Ejiofor was being courted for a part in the film, but it’s not clear if Marvel is still considering him for anything.

Swinton was just seen in Snowpiercer and The Grand Budapest Hotel. If you pay really close attention, you’ll see her in Trainwreck with Amy Schumer.

She just finished Hail Caesar!, the newest film from The Coen Brothers, which will open in February. Swinton won a Best Supporting Actress Oscar for Michael Clayton.
