The 'Assassin's Creed' movie with Michael Fassbender will begin shooting in September

For a while it didn't seem like it was ever going to happen, but the Assassin's Creed movie is going into production very soon.

According to Entertainment Weekly, Michael Fassbender says the film will begin shooting in September. It's currently scheduled to be released on Dec. 21, 2016.

We still don't know exactly who Fassbender will be playing in the movie, with a whole lot of characters to pick from in the games. The rumor is that he'll be playing Desmond Miles, but Fassbender stressed that we shouldn't be so sure.

“You don’t know that. Don’t listen to what they tell you, that’s the first rule,” he told Coming Soon.

The movie has suffered a variety of delays, but Fassbender said that this is just because it takes time to develop a script and get the story right. He also said that part of the challenge of the movie is to develop a good adaptation considering how dense the games are.

The film will also star Marion Cotillard as the female lead,as we previously reported, though her role is also being kept very secretive.

The Assassin's Creed movie will be directed by Justin Kurzel, known for previously directing the crime drama The Snowtown Murders. He's also directing Michael Fassbender and Marion Cotillard in the upcoming Macbeth. The film's screenplay is written by Will Collage, Adam Cooper and Michael Lesslie.

The Assassin's Creed video games are developed by Ubisoft. There are currently eight major installments of the series available on consoles with a new one, Assassin's Creed Victory, scheduled to be released later this year. The games center around a character who is the descendant of a line of assassin's and who is able to live through the memories of these ancestors through technology known as the Animus. Could this be the first video game film adaptation that is actually good.

Assassin's Creed will be released on December 21, 2016.
