Even though spring is in the air and summer is right around the corner, the reminders Old Man Winter left behind in Boston are snow piles looking more like trash dumps.
The Boston Globe noted that a staggering 75-foot snow pile has become a three-story pile of garbage with everything from bicycles to a piece of a $5 bill still encased in ice.
“The fact that it’s still there is a science experiment waiting to happen,” said Department of Public Works Commissioner Michael Dennehy.
He added that crews have been working tirelessly for six weeks to clear out all the debris and so far have removed about 85 tons of trash.
New England and the entire Northeast were so battered by snowstorms this winter that snow removal crews had said that they were running out of space to put all the white stuff. By early February, Massachusetts Gov. Charlie Baker said crews cleared enough snow off the roads to fill Gillette Stadium 90 times.
The piles that accumulated will still be around for weeks to come even as temperatures rise and workers will continue removing whatever trash they can.
