During its upfront presentation to advertisers today in New York City, NBC announced Coat of Many Colors, a made-for-TV movie based on Dolly Parton’s life.
Back in January, NBC and Parton announced plans to create several TV movies with Magnolia Hill Entertainment and Warner Bros. TV. The movie gets its title from Parton’s 1971 song, which she has considers her favorite song that she has written.
According to Variety, the Parton movie was pretty much the only thing NBC had to announce during its presentation. Parton was actually on hand to perform two songs. Neil Patrick Harris was there as well to promote his new variety show, Best Time Ever. The network also showed some clips from its new shows.
NBC already announced the Fall 2015 schedule on Sunday, but didn’t set an air date for the Parton movie.
The network’s schedule relies heavily on dramas, with only two new comedies set to air in the fall. Both Undateable and the new People Are Talking will air on Fridays. Blindspot, a new show produced by Greg Berlanti, will air after The Voice.
Oddly, NBC is keeping The Blacklist on Thursdays in the middle of two other shows. That move didn’t work this season, but NBC offered no explanation as to why it is sticking with that for Fall 2015.
