McDonald’s plan to bring back customers? Revive the Hamburglar!

McDonald’s is in trouble, so how does the fast-food chain fix it? They bring back the Hamburglar! Yes, in an effort to cash in on nostalgia for all things that no longer exist, the company is reviving the character that attempted to make Ronald McDonald’s life tough.

Earlier today, McDonald’s teased the Hamburglar’s return with a 30-second spot on Twitter, which revealed that someone is coming back for the Sirloin Third-Pound Burgers. At the end, a voice whispers “rabble rabble,” the nonsensical phrase the Hamburglar used!

Later, Mashable revealed that the new Hamburglar won’t look like the old cartoon character. Not only is he a more-realistic looking thief (who only steals hamburgers), but he’s also a family man.

“We felt it was time to debut a new look for the Hamburglar after he’s been out of the public eye all these years,” Joel Yashinsky, McDonald's' Vice President of U.S. Marketing, told Mashable. “He’s had some time to grow up a bit and has been busy raising a family in the suburbs and his look has evolved over time."

News of the Hamburglar revival comes just after CEO Steve Easterbrook promised that there will be a turnaround at McDonald’s after “poor” recent performance. The company has taken a hit recently, as more consumers gravitate towards healthier choices and other burger chains.
